On the 31st October Bernie Gravett was invited to take part in a high level debate on ‘Public Policing and Private Security: Shifting Relations, Future Prospects and Ethical Implications’ at the British Academyin London.
The day long evet took views from experts in policing, private security and academia. The event was hosted by the N* partnership and funded by the ESRC EU funding programme.
The group explored the changing nature of relations between public policing and private security and consider the future prospects as well as debate some of the ethical questions to which these give rise.
With police budgets and numbers shrinking discussion was how the space would be filled and was there a role for private security to undertake some policing functions.
Professor Adam Crawford, Director N8 Policing Research Partnership (University of Leeds) opened the event which was detailed covering both pratical and ethical issue in a changing landscape.
